Intrepid travellers depart

March 27, 2012

Poppy and Miriam have finally hefted their huge rucksacks and headed off. Unfortunately I missed their shoes off the photo. Suffice it to say that the beloved is worried that the lawn (on which the “photo shoot” took place) now has too many aeration spike holes for comfort. I’m sure it’ll recover in due course. Whether the girls’ backs will recover from the unaccustomed weight is another thing entirely. Still, I am comforted by the knowledge that the essentials have been packed – jewellery, shoes, hair products etc – and who needs all the clothes to be dry before they’re packed?

Half an hour before they were due to catch the train, there was a shouted request for a pasta salad for the journey. I decided to make a big bowl we could all eat.  It had to be speedy though so it was just pasta with peas and sweetcorn thrown in at the last minute topped with a huge dollop of pesto and some olive oil flavoured with dill drizzled over –  and a bowl of mixed salad leaves with some dressing thrown over. We haven’t had pasta for ages so Arlo was happy, and it looked OK in its travelling container. I hope the lid stays on.

I’m sure they’ll have a lovely time and it will be very strange without them  – don’t forget to text me!

It’s Sarah’s birthday today. Happy Birthday Sarah!

(I had to buy her chocolate because it’s the only thing she doesn’t sell in her shop.)
