Out to lunch…

April 1, 2012

Today we went to the Eden Project. It’s a fantastic place, well worth visiting. The beloved seems to be working for most of this week so we thought we’d make the most of today especially as it was a beautiful sunny day – a little chilly in the shade,  but that’s what you expect for the beginning of April.  The gorse vibrantly lined our route, but primroses and daffodils that are still blooming in Devon were almost gone in Cornwall having  given way to trees decked with fluffy pink blossom.

The Eden biomes sparkled in the sunshine and all around outside plants were springing up – bright green euphorbias,  blousy and not so blousy tulips, delicate little erithroniums  – and lots of new things to look at. Because we are “on holiday” we decided not to take sandwiches, but to treat ourselves to lunch out.

There are so many options of eating places – had we not been quite so hungry we might have looked around a bit more and chosen to eat in the Mediterranean biome which looked the part and smelled of thyme and spring flowers. Never mind.

The beloved had a Cornish pasty – we were in Cornwall after all – Arlo had a baked potato. Neither were particularly photogenic. I had a salmon and haddock fishcake with a mixed leaves, tomato  and bean salad and chilli sauce. Lovely to eat, not a bad photo subject.

After eating we ventured into the biomes and Arlo went off on his own with a camera. He took about 50 pictures including these  photos of the inside of the tropical biome and and the truck – also from the tropical biome. It was so hot inside that they had closed the viewing platform which allows you to climb to the roof and gaze over the entire rainforest below. Probably a good idea as Arlo would have taken another 50 photos.

Periodically I grabbed the camera off him –  to photograph the hibiscus from the tropical biome, and take the food picture.

The beloved had his camera too, but I haven’t seen those photos.
