Sounds like summer, smells like summer…

May 17, 2012

Today the local Council work force was cutting grass on the verges and visible public spaces – this could be to do with the fact that the Olympic Torch is due to pass through the town this weekend and possibly spurred on by the fact that the local rag mentioned how tatty the town was looking on its front page.

It could also be due to the fact that it is summer, and it’s the time to cut grass – and the sound of grass cutting is one of those seminal summer sounds. Like tiny ducklings peeping for their mothers.

The smell of grass just cut is also reminiscent of summer – as is the smell of the wild honeysuckle which is beginning to adorn the hedgerows.

I did a quick sketch of the honeysuckle, but as it’s the smell that’s the most beautiful thing about it the picture falls short of the mark.

As does the weather.

OK so there was a little bit of blue playing at the edges of the clouds, but it was cold! I’ve already painted my toenails – time to show them off!

Hello weather? You taking note?
