Weekly photo challenge:summer

May 26, 2012

I’ve been writing about summer, and where it’s got to, for a little while now so I ought to have a photo for this week’s photo challenge, but I’m in danger of repeating myself because I’ve posted them all, or at least they just become variations on a theme. However, summer in the UK can be a fickle thing and while we hope summer weather lasts for weeks on end (as I remember it doing when I was a kid), we fear it won’t.

Yesterday was a glorious day – one of those days when you believe – and I took photos of the sky from outside the back door and the thermometer at 8.30 am and 8.30 pm, which I am sharing with you lovely people here. It was almost too hot to sit outside in the sun – in fact Sally, and eventually Rachel, had to seek some shade while  Tom, Lucy and Arlo had a water fight and got soaked. Now that would have been a really good photo – the epitome of summer, but did I take one? Nope. Another opportunity missed.

I did make gooseberry and blackcurrant muffins though, using the last of some frozen berries Grannie gave me a couple of weeks ago – I need the space in the freezer for this year’s glut. They are quite tart, which adults tend to like and kids don’t (result), perfect with a cup of tea on a summer afternoon.

“Sweet and sour muffins” Rachel called them. I think the name will stick.
