Variation on a theme

June 4, 2012

We caught the tail end of the news yesterday and sympathised as the royal party shivered on that barge on the Thames and millions of good citizens braved the cold and the rain to wave their flags. Clearly not enough summer themed cooking had been going on.

Grannie watched the whole thing broadcast as it was happening and said that at one point the monarch had left the barge deck to go down to the loo. Arlo was aghast. The Queen going to the loo? Another dream shattered.

The beloved said it was pretty good that Phil the Greek managed to stand up for so long in the cold and then speculated as to how many of the flags being waved had been made in the UK…

Today we continued the jubilee theme and our “pudding” embraced the  red, white and blue option with local strawberries, local cream, home made meringues – using local eggs – and blueberries. From Chile. Unfortunate, I know, but reduced. I realise it doesn’t really make a difference, but they were very, very cheap….

Arlo said “It’s nice, but you could have just used blue food colouring”. Where does that child get his ideas from?
