Brambles and bravery

September 10, 2012

I’ve been rained on several times today which is a little rude I think. My birthday’s only just over and I’ve extended it by having presents to open today from Halo and Grannie and J&C, so I think the weather could have behaved a little better in my honour. Clearly not. When the sun does come out it’s lovely, but it’s afraid of the rain and retreats at the merest hint. I wish it would be a little braver.

Never mind, Rella has bravery enough for us all. She did battle with the bramble bushes at Longmarsh ably abetted by her umbrella and Grannie – well, Grannie was more of a cheerleader on the sides then going in for the kill when the coast was clear, whereas Rella’s clearly born to be a stampeding warrior: the bushes quailed and yielded their fruit – though it must be said that there wasn’t a great abundance as others had clearly been frightening before us.

Still we picked enough for a crumble and for some bramble jelly maybe. Grannie was threatening to go blackberrying tomorrow too.

I’ve got a few paintings in the Totnes Art Society’s Big Show on at the Totnes Boating Association so we had a look and then had a pleasant lunch at the Riverside Cafe; Rella and I shared a tuna melt (good balance of cheese and tuna)and some really delicious chips while Grannie  polished off a huge plate of ham, egg and chips. The only downside was that the ketchup came in little sachets –  hard to open. So much nicer decanted into bowls.
