Sunday best

September 16, 2012

It was the Totnes Sunday Good Food market today. It’s rapidly becoming the place to visit and get great local food at reasonable prices. Pity it’s only once a month. The smell of the “eat it now” stalls is tantalisingly lovely and wafts through the streets.  Instant food includes noodles, curry, chorizos, burgers (not that sort of burger),  fish pies and sandwiches. And there are also cakes, bread, fish, vegetables, spices, jams, chutneys and juices (including Becky and Tom Morrow’s juice) which you can take home and savour later.  Arlo had a chickpea curry with raita and chutney on a warm chapati and the beloved had two curries with rice. I had a smoothie which Arlo didn’t really like – too many big lumps he said, but that’s because the blender attached to the bike wasn’t working (I assume that was the reason). Seems I got a raw deal…

There was audible music accompanying the eating today, courtesy (I believe) of the Studio Lounge which supplied amplified sound for musicians. The whole atmosphere was lovely. Arlo was delighted to spot the very talented Bert from Bert Miller and the Animal Folk wandering round. Arlo’s a fan, so we went up and said hello.

Inspired by the curries on offer at the market, the beloved decided to cook something special this evening for dinner and treated us to a mixed vegetable curry (which filled the house with the most delicious smell as it was cooking) with (home made) chutneys, salad, some peppers stuffed with feta from the Olive Branch stall and fluffy white rice. Worth breaking my wrist for. Almost.
