weekly photo challenge:silhouette

October 19, 2012

“I think it’s time to chop the fennel down” said the beloved as he perambulated around the garden looking for things to slaughter. I protested. It hasn’t finished flowering yet and looks quite pretty and the seeds need a little more time time to develop if I’m to use them as a culinary ingredient – I thought I might try coating them in sugar.

Fortunately the beloved relented and it was the lemon balm which bit the dust. It’s not nearly as lovely as the lemon verbena and it was in danger of challenging the mint for dominance over the patch of rain sodden garden devoted to herbs.

So the fennel was reprieved and I took its picture against the sinking sun and this silhouette was the result. “Cool picture” said Carlo. Praise indeed.

You’ve opened my eyes to a new way of looking at my waning garden plants and what the frost has left behind.

Brilliant. I’m glad you didn’t chop the seedheads down before you had a chance at this shot. 🙂 Good case for never listening to the beloved. 😉

Trees and foliage look wonderful in silhouette. 🙂
