good v bad: good wins!

October 24, 2012

Here’s Viridor’s artist’s impression of an incinerator sitting comfortably in the landscape….

Fortunately, today the Devon County Councillors on the Development Management Committee voted unanimously to reject Viridor’s planning application for an incinerator in New England Quarry. Hooray! Well done!

The proposed incinerator site nestles in the shadow of Dartmoor, is a mere stone’s throw away from the beautiful River Yealm, would have destroyed an area of Ancient Woodland to build an access road and ruined bat roosting and foraging ground. This is just for starters before even considering  the landscape, the fumes, the traffic, the waste of  recyclable resources, the height of the chimney, the waste of money etc etc.

Viridor will appeal of course. How appealing they are remains to be seen…
