Are you listening Matt?

December 12, 2012

Today the date is 12.12.12. When I woke this morning I felt it had to be significant.

robinYesterday the beloved and I went to see Matt Harvey perform his poems at the Seven Stars Hotel in Totnes. I feel that Matt, had he thought about it, would have chosen 12.12.12 to be on stage, but maybe that is living in the present too much and doesn’t go with the diffidence he does so well. (This diffidence is translated into his website which I think is a mistake, but maybe that’s just me. Nice buttons though.)

He was very very funny. Well worth it. (The beloved is quite pleased with his line in the audience participation cheese poem (migraine maker) and has since thought of additional improvements.)

Back to today. Various things have happened today – whether they are significant or not I’m not sure. I rang Boo (she might say that event is in itself significant) and she told me to check out the largest iceberg break up ever filmed – OK it didn’t happen today, but I heard about it today. Watch it here.  I also  finished my painting of a white rose and a purple tulip which has been causing me grief, but it’s done now – that is significant.

But topping the iceberg falling – and all that that entails (Boo’s right -we’re doomed) – is perhaps the most distressing significant thing that’s happened today and it’s to do with mealworms. I’ve bought some with the intention of making a mealworm cake for the birds – inspired by my meeting a robin yesterday in the frost who was grubbing about by the cattle grid looking for worms with some success.

I typed mealworm cake into my search engine and I got a recipe for banana worm bread. It’s a recipe for people to eat. People. People who have access to bananas and chopped nuts and flour and eggs and sugar.

There’s something a little odd about that I think – but maybe it’s just me.

mealworms

It could be that entomophagy is the future. I hope not. But there’s definitely a poem there…
