Unexpected excesses

January 4, 2013

I went up to the market today in search of a bargain and came away with two local cauliflowers for a quid. Nice looking veg so not a bad deal really. We need something to go with the potatoes which are a bit ropey already and not nearly as good a bargain as the last lot were. Never mind.cauliflower

Arlo and Rella opted for cauliflower with cheese sauce, but the beloved doesn’t do cheese sauce so I fried up some mustard seeds, cumin seeds and some Madras curry powder in a pan with some olive oil and then added a couple of generous tablespoons of Greek Yogurt and stirred it round a bit before pouring on to the cooked cauliflower florets. Very good. Especially nice with potato wedges.

We still have a cauliflower left – two, in fact, because the beloved bought a cauliflower the other day. It almost counts as a glut,  but it’s manageable. Especially if you have a rabbit to help.cauliflower-and-peaches

No, the glut that’s exercising me at the moment is the chocolate glut. Never thought I’d say that; I always thought it was a contradiction in terms. Oh well.

(Happy Birthday Liz :))
