oranges and lemons

January 22, 2013

IMG_4768IMG_4775It’s that time of year again – Seville oranges are in the shops and we have to make marmalade!

The first step is to wash the oranges/ lemons/ and limes (1.5lbs in total)and then put them in a pan with 2 pints of water, bring them to the boil and put in the simmering oven overnight.

I realise that this recipe might have limited appeal so far for an non-Aga owner. Stay with me!

I have also just made a batch of Seville orange marmalade here in the Outer Hebrides. I used to have a Raeburn and use a whole fruit method like yours, but my Raeburn died so sliced fruit method is that of choice now. Thanks, Tracey

The Outer Hebrides! Sounds very remote – and cold. Hope the Seville orange Marmalade warms things up a little.

Reminds me to get down to Sainsburys for some Seville oranges – I like to lace my marmalade with whisky

Sounds nice, though I think if I started the day with whisky I’d be be useless by lunchtime!
