vegetable harvest and birthday greetings

February 17, 2013

The beloved and Arlo are not feeling well today – they went in to town yesterday, both quite perky, and both came back feeling a little under the weather. Today they are both feeling ill. The beloved had a “Lemsip” – a sure sign that he’s not well, and Arlo spent all day lounging around on the sofa even though the sun was shining and there was no school.

I think that they have both been poisoned by a 17th century bug that’s been accidentally exposed during the excavation of the main street by South West Water (I think that’s who’s doing it). It’s possibly lain dormant for centuries only to be awakened in order to wreak half term havoc  before it burns itself out.  (I’ve been told that this is not a helpful explanation.)

The beloved rallied himself a little this afternoon and went to the allotment in the sunshine and dug some leeks, parsnips and parsley. I cooked a selection of these vegetables with a few potatoes and a carrot or two slowly in the Aga. Delicious and very therapeutic. Especially when it’s served with pasta and tomato and mushroom sauce and followed  by cake.

They’ll be right as rain tomorrow.

It’s Henry’s birthday today and he’s 4! And it’s Jeaniegran’s birthday too, but her age is a secret – always has been I think. Happy Birthday both!

I’m so pleased. You might want to watch what happens to the bouncy putty though – it really bounces!

What do you think?
