March winds

March 3, 2013

My idea of a good breakfast is a cup of coffee and a croissant – preferably almond, but chocolate will do or even a plain one at a pinch if there’s some nice jam to go with it. But that’s just me and I’m in a minority it seems.english-breakfast2

Because we have two delightful Spanish boys staying with us, we thought we’d do an English breakfast – to be  followed by a very English trip to the seaside to be buffeted by winds and have a go on the 2p machines on the pier at Paignton. The 2p machines are great and will turn anyone into a gambler. Arlo, Hector and Guillem each managed to win a dinosaur key chain after much perseverence.

But back to the breakfast which the beloved cooked  as I’m not very good with meat.  He says next time we’ll do vegetarian breakfasts because the timing of the bacon, eggs, hash browns, black pudding  and meat and vegetarian sausages was difficult. (The vegetarian breakfast won’t make much difference to the timings, but I think the hope is that I’ll cook it.)english-breakfast

In the end everything was cooked at the right time and our guests had some warming food inside them before we braved the truly dreadful wind and cold that was Paignton.

It’s March. I don’t think it ought to be this cold.

Espresso and croissant , the perfect breakfast indeed. And it is remarkably cold just now . I’m in London at the moment and it’s freezing compared to the balmy Hebrides!
