Maybe it’s not all bad

April 16, 2013

So Arlo and I are returned from our travels to the frozen North, only it wasn’t all that frozen – there was a bit of a breeze, but the South West has been very cold of late. And wet. This is the principal difference. In York we didn’t get rained on. Not once. Not even a little bit (though one morning the ground was wet indicating that rain had happened while we slept). We didn’t need raincoats. And my once broken wrist stopped aching.

It was a different story in Devon while we were away. The soggy ground bears witness. As does the mould growing on anything that’s been left outside for the last few weeks. Most people I know want to emigrate.

But I won’t go on about it, because this afternoon the sun shone and it was hot. It was a really beautiful afternoon. Sarah and I walked along the cycle path (there was a little mud to skirt) to the Shops at Dartington (daft renaming of the Cider Press Centre) and ate Bakewell tart at Cranks and drank tea basking in sunshine and getting a much needed vitamin D fix. Forgot the camera though so didn’t take a photo.

I did take the camera to York however and here are photos of Arlo and Kit desecrating ancient monuments while their lax female parents look on and capture the moment for posterity.

Arlo's-ice-creamAnd here’s a photo of Arlo’s ice cream (which finished the meal Liza-Beth treated us to). Calling it an ice cream is a bit lame really – there was fruit, strawberry puree, whipped cream and chocolate sauce as well as two (or was it three?) sorts of ice cream and a biscuit thing and it had a name that I’ve forgotten. Arlo would remember but he’s gone to bed. Happy times.
