number bonds…

July 17, 2013

So Arlo is finally 12 years old.  Most of  his friends have been 12 for some time, and it’s been a long wait. This means he can finally watch a 12 film at the school film club – pity it’s the last week of term so no film club, and it’s so beautifully hot and sunny that no one wants to watch a film during the day – but that’s a minor point.

He’s had a great day,  and once again his birthday has been enhanced by language students we have staying who’ve been very lovely – last year it was Pietro (who also has just celebrated his 18th birthday) and Frank; this year Katrine, Matthieu and Endika.

And the sun is still shining!

The pirate cake tin came out again – we’ve cracked the recipe and the method of getting the cake out of the tin – brush with vegetable oil and dust with flour and then shake the flour out so that it doesn’t leave white goo on the cake. Simple really. Should have thought of it before.

I should also have thought about the candles before too – I intended to use the number candles , but didn’t have a 1 or a 2  so had to put a 9 and a 3. Bit mean to make the boy do maths on his birthday, but needs must.

Happy Birthday Arlo
